ABSTRACT

Gas flow through porous media is a physical phenomenon commonly occurring in natural environment and in many industrial applications. This phenomenon is most often connect with filtration process and migration of gases through different porous structures, mainly rock media. In these medium there occur free spaces of different shapes, in which flow of gas is possible. These spaces create pores (for which longitudinal dimension and transverse dimensions are similar) and gaps (for which transverse dimension is considerably lower than longitudinal one). Free spaces in rock structure create complicated network connections (regular or irregular), through which gas can flow. Hydrodynamics of such flow depends on many parameters characterizing porous medium and flowing gas. In the paper results of modeling studies are presented, carried out in order to determine the influence of permeability of porous medium and shape of pores (homogenous and nonhomogeneous) on the physical parameters of gas flowing through this medium. Distribution of velocity and pressure of gases flowing through the porous media with different permeability coefficient and porosity were determined. Studies were carried out also for gases with different physical-chemical properties. Obtained results should be used in ventilation analyzes connected with fire and gas hazards in mines.
