THE GEOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENT CHANGES UNDER THE EFFECT OF BOLBOCI HYDROTECHNICAL AGGREGATION FROM THE BUCEGI MASSIF, ORIENTAL CARPATHIAN

ABSTRACT

The Bolboci hydrotechnical arrangement was achieved in 1988 on the upper course of
Ialomita river, in the complicated geological and tectonic conditions of Bucegi massif
from the Oriental Carpathians. This occupies the tectonic syncline of Bucegi which is
situated between Cheile Tatarului and Cheile Zanoagei, at south, resulted from the
background deformations of precadomian crystalline and the deposition blanket being
made from the succession of Dogger, Malm and Albian.

On the level of the litho-group of Malm-Dogger calcareous stones and Albian grit
conglomerates, there is a hydrocarstic system which is drained by the springs line
situated at about 1.8 km downstream from the Bolboci barrage, which are known as the
“Seven Springs”.

The systematic observations on the spring flows, are in correlation with the water level
of Bolboci lake and the changing biochemical characteristics of the geological
environment, in point of: the underground water level, drainage flows, gradients and
flows speed, chemistry of the microbiological charge of the underground water.

The changes from the geological environment manifested themselves differently in time
and can be classified in: short term and long term changes.

The short term changes appear at the flows discharge of the underground waters
through: the underground water level grows with about 100m downstream of Bolboci
barrage; the discharge flows hydrograph is modified in the drainage points; the running
speed increase and the time the underground waters need to go through the karst lower;
microbiological charges of some springs appears at the drainage frontier.

The long term changes appear in: the increased rate of dissolution of the calcareous
stones, which determines an amplification of the karst phenomena, with the possibility
of development of karst holes. So, it is appreciated that the double time of porosity
formation may have been reduced at half compared to the natural conditions.
