RESEARCHES ON SOME HEAVY METALS DETERMINATION FROM DANUBE RIVER IN GALATI-BRAILA AREA FROM ROMANIA. A CASE STUDY.

ABSTRACT

Exposure to the environmental toxic agents can have profound effects on normal growth and development. Many environmental toxicants as the heavy metals from soil and water can alter the reproductive function and they can have effects on the central nervous system and on the behaviour of the living beings.
This paper presents a study accomplished on Danube River samples collected from some points of Danube River situated in Galati and in Braila town, from Romania. The water samples were collected from three-four points in Danube River. The heavy metals concentrations were determined using the Atomic Absorbtion Spectroscopy (AAS) Technique, together with some physical parameters. There was explored the possibility to monitoring the concentrations of some heavy metals from surface waters being necessary to protect the populated areas and the populations.
As the samples from the water we considered for this study sampling sites (stations) such as: (S1) - the mouth spill of Siret River in Danube River (the Bridge Galati-Braila); (S2) - Danube River (Braila Cliff); (S3) - Danube River (Galati Cliff, near the Port of the ore carrier) and the measures were done in the following days: 05.20.2014, 06.30.2014 and 09.02.2016. The monitoring process of water quality was made in accordance to the National Integrate System of Monitoring of the Romanian Waters. The sampling procedure is according to APHA. At each sampling time, the following chemical and physical parameters were analyzed: water debit, temperature, pH, and some heavy metals concentrations. Experimental results have enabled a short monitoring.
The analyses were carried out at the laboratory of the Materials and Environment Quality Centre from “Dunarea de Jos” University – Faculty of Engineering.
