Research and analysis in the field of urban transport can contribute to development planning and to improve the quality of life in the city. An example of such analysis are research on time accessibility of public transport which results in creating travel time maps. Time accessibility provide information how quickly the target place can be reached from anywhere in the city.
The purpose of the article is to present the results of research on automation of data gathering in the travel time mapping. Data collecting takes more than 60% of the map creation time and it is the longest task in this process. It demands identification of the points and measuring the travel time in each of them.
In the paper the research on the automatic distribution of measurement points, grid size and the way of self-acting data gathering will be presented. As the result of the study the original software for data gathering has been developed and will be introduced. The case study on the Central Railway Station in Warsaw and traveling by public transportation will be described. The result of the research, the final travel time map, together with the analyzes of its accuracy will be also presented.
