FUZZY CONTROL SYSTEM BASED ON SPR-POF FIBER SENSOR FOR CHLORINE MONITORING IN WATER

ABSTRACT
Optical fiber surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor has received considerable
attention due to low cost fabrication and simple real-time measurement techniques. The SPR sensor with flow-cell is used in spectral interrogation configuration, for refractive index variation of the analyt. The platform with fuzzy logic and remote-control
capabilities is proposed as a solution for water quality continuous-monitoring. The
chlorine solutions with various concentrations ranging from 0 ppm to 6 ppm are taken in account. The detection limit of this sensor was estimated to be better than 0.1 ppm. The PWM obtained permits the control of the automation system, to maintain free residual chlorine at a level adequate enough to disinfect bacteria and virus that may be brought into the water by air dust, rain and other sources and to prevent the algae deposition.
