EVALUATION OF TERRESTRIAL LASER SCANNING DATA IN MEASUREMENTS OF SURFACES INDUSTRIAL ELEMENTS

ABSTRACT
Laser scanning has recently confirmed its enormous capabilities in the field of 3D data acquisition, both for architectural and engineering objects. Projection of complex geometry of surfaces of industrial objects is a complicated task. Depending on the functionality, industrial objects may differ not only with respect to geometric typology, construction, size of elements, but also the type of applied building materials used for construction of those objects.
The objective of this paper is the qualitative assessment of TLS data acquired for different surfaces of industrial objects. Different industrial elements, such as: pipes and plastic fittings, constructions of matt and glittering metal sheets, surfaces of transparent plastics and other elements constructed of different materials, were used for testing.
Analyses concerning the quality of measurement data and shapes of different industrial surfaces, of the different curvature, structure and surface uniformity, were performed.
The results repeatability was also tested for identical conditions of scanning.
Obtained results and conclusions may be useful for testing deformations of industrial surfaces, where both, the high speed of measurements, as well as precision and repeatability of results are required.
