ABSTRACT
Footbridges, also known as pedestrian bridges, pedestrian overpasses or pedestrian over-crossings, are brides designed to ensure the crossing of a natural or man-made obstacle by the pedestrians or cyclists.
In the range of small and medium spans, the preferred constructive solution for the superstructure are the rolled steel girders, plate web girders with welded sections, truss girders and hollow girders. The comfort criteria in the design of a footbridge is as important as the ULS and SLS verification. If the frequency and acceleration of a structure are situated in the critical domain, some measures to modify them need to be taken.
The present paper presents some aspects concerning the design and constructive solutions for the steel and steel-concrete composite footbridge structures.
