THE BEHAVIOUR OF SOME MAIZE HYBRIDS UNDER THE SPECIFIC CONDITIONS FROM SOUTH ROMANIAN PLAIN

ABSTRACT
The grain production of maize in the last years has ranked Romania on the second position in the EU, after France. However, selecting the appropriate hybrids for each agricultural region is essential for farmers in order to achieve their production goals, referring either to grains or biomass.
The aim of this paper is to present the results regarding the biomass yield and yield components at different maize hybrids under the conditions of the cambic chernozem from Baneasa area, Giurgiu county from South Romania (44o03’ N latitude and 26o05’ E longitude), and under the climatic conditions of 2015. At full maturity stage, it was determined the total above-ground biomass, the grain yield, and the yield components. Out of the eleven studied hybrids, three of them (F376, Florencia and P0216) have remarked by the highest biomass and grain yields, they having the highest values of the ear average weight and the grain weight per ear.
