NAVIGATIONAL SAFETY NEAR BY HYDRAULIC STRUCTURES

ABSTRACT
In terms of navigational safety, the most dangerous parts of waterways are the areas, where the vessels decelerate before stop. Seeing that the manoeuver ability is lowered, the vessels are exposed to the force effect of the velocity field of water flow in higher measure than on common areas of the waterways. It includes areas of ports and lock approaches.
The article deals with evaluation of water flow parameters and their influence on vessels enter the lock approach. The water flow parameters are evaluated through the usage of the 2D mathematical modelling. Especially, it concerns the possibilities of navigation through the Gabčíkovo Hydraulic Structure on the Danube River, during the operation mode as well as emergency shutdown of the Gabčíkovo Hydropower Plant. It points out the importance of modelling research preceding the construction of hydraulic structures with navigation mode, while it compares the current status of the Selice Hydraulic Structure on the Váh River with the project (no modelling research had been conducted before construction).
