MATHEMATICAL MODELING OF DANGEROUS STORM AND SURGE PHENOMENA IN THE BASIN OF THE SEA OF AZOV (MARCH 24, 2013)

ABSTRACT
In paper the works on the adaptation of mathematical models the Simulating WAves Nearshore model (SWAN) and the Sea of Azov Surge MOdel (SASMO) to the hydrological conditions of the basin of the Sea of Azov is presented. Results of the experimental calculations for the extreme wave and surge situation in the Taganrog Bay on March 24, 2013 is described. Preliminary results on the use of the SWAN model to assess the wave load of the shore have been obtained. The SWAN model implements nested grid technology for calculation of wave phenomena on individual sections of coastal zone. To compare the calculation wave characteristics in the same points at different levels of nested grids two slices have been selected. The input data for the model include wind fields over the Sea of Azov built according to the standard meteorological observations for this period and parameter values representing an extreme condition. For the comparison information from the SSC RAS database and the data by the flood monitoring system of the Krasnodar Territory AS MPSKK was used, namely the level sensor data set on the coast of the Sea of Azov and the level sensor in the Donskoy farm in the delta of the Don river.
