FACILITIES FOR THE PERCOLATION OF PRECIPITATION WATER IN THE AREA OF THE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY IN KOSICE

ABSTRACT

Hygienic problems and the protection of property against floods have been successfully
solved by existing concepts of drainage. However, the way of urban drainage has led to
intensification of urbanization impact on hydrological regime of the country.
Technologically, environmentally and economically purposeful urban drainage prevents
rapid runoff of waste water. New concept supports such way which resembles natural
way of drainage in unstopped floods and which reduces negative consequences of
country urbanization. A consistent coordination between properties and the whole
concept of urban drainage represents the basic condition for the implementation of the
new concept of urban drainage. The future concept of the urban drainage systems
should fully suit the principles of sustainable development. In many parts of Europe
water use is unsustainable and therefore is desirable to provide recommendations for a
new approach to managing water resources in practise. Sewage systems of residential
units were constructed as a single system in the past. Tribal sewers of most cities are
now congested. Reasonable rain water management leads to maintain or recover a sound and sustainable water cycle. This involves retentions, infiltrations, vegetation strips, paving and design techniques, and so on. New concept of capture and use water
from surface run-off provides a platform for a new technical and non-technical measures, both in drained on each property, as well as the public part of urban drainage area. The purpose of the paper is to present precipitation water management by using
facilities for the percolation. Percolation shaft is one of the possible alternatives that are able to regulate sewer loads, regulate groundwater quantity and quality, and to reduce
the risk of floods.
