ABSTRACT

GPS (Local Positioning System) technique is still the most applied positioning system
in practical applications and engineering projects in our country and in the world. Since
GPS measuring is commonly used in every kind of geodesic study, heights used in
practice can be obtained easily in demanded accuracy from GPS. However it is
necessary to determine geoid which had enough precision in working place. Because
geoid is a natural relation between the ellipsoidal height (h) determined by satellite and
orthometric height determined in different ways according to the type of data and
methods are used.

In this study, a test area was selected in Kadınhanı district of Konya city to determine
the local geoid. In previous years, local geodesic network in Kadınhanı region was
established apt to the coordinate system of the country and the network has been used to
the present. Geoid undulations were determined by establishing suitable points to
intensify the net for the purpose of the test.
