ABSTRACT
Alysso borzaeani-Ephedretum distachyae Tzonev et al. 2005 is a very rare plant community on the western coast of the Black Sea, presently known only in Bulgaria and Romania. In Romania, within the Natural Reserve “Marine Sand Dunes of Agigea”, the association has not a favorable conservation status due to the high distance from the seashore and of disturbed habitats from the reserve surroundings which facilitates colonization of the sand dunes with antropophytes and ruderal species. On the beach „Anna Maria” on the northern coast of Bulgaria, in a less accessible area very close to the border with Romania, the association has long term favorable conditions and cover large surfaces on the stabilized sand dunes at the base of the sea cliff. Phytocoenoses from the Reserve of Agigea” have a slightly different floristic composition from that of the dunes from Bulgaria due to the higher number of steppic and ruderal species, whose development is favored by anthropogenic influences and a different microclimate than that of the sand dunes from the beach "Anna Maria". The accession of the Romania and Bulgaria in the Schengen space of free movement will increase the accessibility in the border area and therefore placing under protection of the coastal dunes with Alyssum borzaeanum and Ephedra distachya is strongly recommended.
