THEORETICAL RESEARCH FOR THE OPTIMIZATION OF MATHEMATICAL MODELS OF THE REAL VERTICAL OF VERY HIGH STRUCTURES

ABSTRACT
Mathematical modeling has become a part of structural monitoring, its results being concludente to validate design solutions used and also to check the in-situ behavior of the monitored construction and its safe operation. There are situations, as presented in the paper, where the results of this step can lead to solutions on the future of the analyzed structure. The 351.5 m smoke chimney on the former industrial site of Baia Mare has had an ideal vertical position since its completion in 1995 until 2013. Then, unknown reasons led to its tilt. The paper presents mathematical models of the vertical of the construction for 2004 - during 1995-2004 the tilt from vertical being insignificant, March 2013 - when the last measurement found a small and unimportant deviation compared to measurements made in 2004 and November 2014, a year in which a significant deviations from the vertical of its peak, exceeding 500 mm, was discovered. The authors shall repeat the measurements in July 2015 and will again present the results after analyzing the possible causes of this unwanted phenomenon.
