ABSTRACT
The factors influencing the mechanical characteristics of andesites of Southern Apuseni Mountains can be of a different nature, being divided into two major categories: external factors and internal factors. The internal factors which influence the mechanical characteristics of andesites are of physical and chemical nature. From the physical and chemical point of view the analyzed andesites are directly influenced by porosity, moisture and the degree of alteration of mineral components. In this paper there are presented the results of several tests performed in the Geomechanics Laboratory of University of Petrosani on the andesites from Southern Apuseni Mountains, being highlighted, beside the influence of porosity and humidity, the influence of physical-chemical alteration over their mechanical characteristics.
