SWEDISH GRANITE - HOST ROCK ENVIRONMENT OF THE DEEP ENERGY WELL

ABSTRACT
Ongoing project "Development of methods for excavation of deep energy wells" has first tangible results. Firstly, it is finishing of underground hall with entrance to the vertical shaft of the energy well and equipping the halls with machineries required for excavation the experimental high capacity energy well. The shaft was located in an underground hall after a detailed engineering-geological mapping of rock mass and also with respect to the requirements of the proposed not destructive mining technology. The mentioned experimental underground hall is placed in the sound granite massif of the Swedish island Stora Hoggarn near the city Stockholm. In this paper we present introduction information about the project, its basic ideas and results of engineering geological mapping needed for positioning the entrance to the shaft of the energy well.
