THE USE OF GEOINFORMATIONAL SYSTEMS (GIS) TO ASSESS THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS OF THE INDUSTRIAL REGIONS

ABSTRACT
The strongly impact on the environment and the population is the most evident in the large industrial centers, towns and districts, where metallurgical productions are concentrated. The same situation can be observed in regions, focused on large-scale development of mineral resources. One of these regions is the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly (KMA)- the main base of the iron ore industry in Russia and the largest manufacturer of construction materials. Since the 50-ies of the last century, the scale of mining and processing of mineral raw materials in KMA region steadily increased, and accordingly increased the growth rate and scale of landscape degradation, environmental pollution and other negative consequences of mining. These circumstances have predetermined the actuality of geo-ecological assessment of mining anthropogenous impact on ecosystem of KMA region and development of effective monitoring system using modern geoinformational systems.
