INTERACTION OF PERICLASE AND QUARTZ WITH OXIDIC COPPER AND LEAD BASED MELT

ABSTRACT
The paper presents the results of the original experimental material research of high temperature interaction (1200 °C) of crystalline sand grains of periclase (MgO) and quartz (SiO2) with a slag melt containing mainly copper and lead. The interaction zone of periclase and quartz monocrystals of with real oxidic converter slag from copper production was studied. The mass transfer at the interface and change of structural characteristics of the system was studied as well. Knowledge of the mechanisms of mutual interactions and mass transfer on the interface solid - melt is one of the essential preconditions for prediction and control of corrosion process of magnesia refractories.
