ECONOMICAL IMPORTANCE OF EYE-BAR IN THE REHABILITATION OF CANTILEVER STEEL BRIDGE TRAIAN

ABSTRACT

The paper will present the importance of eye-bar during the four rehabilitation of the steel bridge.
The old steel bridge Traian is located in the west of the country and the bridge cross the Mures River, the city who host is Arad, the bridge is a emblematical structure for the architecture of the town.
During the service life the bridge was rehabilitated for four times and at each expertise the eye-bare had a good behavior and because that the eye-bar wasn’t replaced, the element is still the same from the beginning of the structure. The structure is a cantilever bridge, it was built between 1910-1913, at almost 20 years from “King Carol I” another emblematical cantilever steel bridge from Romania built between 1890-1895. "King Carol I" was the first cantilever steel bridge made in Romania and was the beginning of the infrastructure construction in the country.
This study will present a economical analysis on the eye-bar element, the material of eye-bar is mild steel from beginning the 1900 year’s. The scope of this analysis is to demonstrate that the eye-bar is very economical in time because it wasn’t replaced at none of the four rehabilitation [6], [7].
