ABSTRACT

The article discusses about the possible approaches to reduce the environmental burden, during the design phase of construction. At this stage, using the calculating tools should be possible to create the parallel calculating building costs and environmental costs. Investor consults with designer the selection of the construction type and type of building materials at the beginning of the design. That choice of building materials and construction products are a significant carrier of the building costs and environmental costs, too. This philosophy promotes the formation of EPD database (Environmental Product Declaration) with IFC format for the potential calculation of the environmental burden of building materials. The paper suggests the methodology for parallel calculating the environmental costs and building costs using national tool for creating budgets. The aim is to reduce the environmental burden throughout the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). This approach is based on the idea, that all phases in the life of building materials generate environmental impacts and must be analyzed.
