ABSTRACT

The article discusses the air quality in rural areas. The paper aims to quantify the sources of air pollution by solid particles, and to carry out emission and imission assessment of air quality in standardized rural areas. The model village consisted of 35 residential buildings and road, without industrial activities. The actual state can be verified only by measurement of imissions, which is costly. The means of evaluation are mathematical models of air quality. It was expected that air quality in rural areas in the winter heating season is comparable to normal values in the urban environment. Model calculations showed that the winter heating period has a significant impact on the rural air quality in terms of PM10. The calculated mean values were almost 60% of value measured in the city of Kosice, (Štúrová station). The findings make it desirable to use ecologically sound energy resources.
