ABSTRACT

The availability of robotics to the general public has improved thanks to technological advances. One example might be LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT robots from Lego, which thanks to its simplicity and user friendliness enjoys great popularity. The involvement of this type of robots in teaching subjects related to programming increases their attractiveness to students who are not very experienced in the field. Resulted implementations can be immediately tested and robot’s behaviour provides immediate feedback for debugging.
The paper describes software provided by robots manufacturer, but also freely distributable interface for controlling the robots. The application designed for robot localization based on image processing, which allows a more precise control, is described in the second part of the paper.
