PARAMETERS OF REHABILITATION AND ADAPTABILITY OF HYDRO POWER PLANTS TO DURABLE MODES OF OPERATION

ABSTRACT

One of the strategic aims in the energy sector is the provision of a durable and safe
operation of the hydro power plants (HPP). An important element of the safe operation
is the assessment of the vibration effect on the plant’s structure. The purpose is to
identify the zones having excessive levels of vibration and to outline measures for their
reduction to acceptable rates.
After an expert review and inspection of a particular project, regimes for investigation
of vibrations have been selected under two criteria: /1/ to conform to the regular modes
of operation, and /2/ to be compatible with previous measurements in order for
comparative analysis to be made.
After the vibration study outcomes have been analyzed, specific recommendations for
increasing the vibration stability of the plant building have been drawn up. These
recommendations are a useful experience for the practice, for the reliable adaptation of
HPP to high-performance operational modes.
