SEARCH FOR OPTIMAL REGIME OF ROCK CUTTING USING THE SIMULATION METHODS

ABSTRACT

Parametric optimization of technological processes of rock cutting is one of the issues to
be solved in order to improve the technology, i.e. decreasing the costs for running meter
of the underground construction. Rock cutting process optimization represents a search
for the best solution at given limitations using a proper optimization method. The option
for optimization is feasible only in case of having a chance for selection from several
variants, while the individual variants are not equivalent usually. If the process cannot
be optimized during the real-time operation or at experimental device, due to
technological conditions of operation or due to parameters of experimental device,
respectively, the simulation methods may be used based on the utilization of
mathematical apparatus with computational techniques such as interactive software
Matlab. Issuing from performed simulations, the algorithms using the operation of
translation of initial simplex appear as the most convenient method. The translation of
initial simplex provides the best effectiveness and stability for all examined rock types
in whole range of operational regime. The algorithms may be complemented properly
with statistical methods or with other indirect methods of optimum determination in
order to provide a better reliability of operational regime in the area of optimum. Such
approach covers a possibility of more precise, safer and faster deciding or regulation for
a specific technological process.
