ABSTRACT

Coal mass self-ignition is a common phenomenon in open pit brown coal mines with
seams disturbed by former underground mining, homogenisation and other deposits, but
also in dumps at power and heat stations, and industry plants combusting brown coal.
The presented paper summarises fundamental knowledge from researching the question
of the coal self-ignition process modelling. The attention is concentrated to cognition
this process’s patterns directly in the in-situ conditions of coal dumps.
