ABSTRACT

Construction of a mine (in this case of an open pit) is a demanding and multidisciplinary
project following the sequence of preparatory activities. The incompletely/inadequately
conceived activities can lead either to a prolonged preparation of mine construction or to the
misdirected investment. Introduction of computer technology in this process enables shortening
of time limits but emphasizes the importance of preparatory activities and exploration works.
During the phase of preparatory activities, changes in the market frequently demand
instant changes to be made. This can’t be accomplished without the computer support. The
programme/application (Project MS 98) offers the Investor (Project Manager) a permanent
insight into the current stage of preparatory activities as well as control of the resources, which
makes instant interventions possible.
