ABSTRACT

Coal is an important energy resource in world. Coal mine exploitation with nonmechanized
methods, need expert labors and with out them, mining process will be
deranged so the labors and their safety is really important. In many industrial countries
the accidents are the most important cause of person’s death. According to I.L.O
(International Labor Organization) reports 120,000,000 accidents occur per year and
210,000 people die in these accidents. It means more than 500 people per day. In order
to decreasing the injured persons and the cost of these accidents the cause of them
should be recognized. Mine accidents still cause loss of lives and money in various coal
mines. Tazare coal mine (Iran) is one the important coal resource in Iran which
exploited by conventional and non-mechanized methods so mining accidents are
unavoidable. In this study, historical accident records of Tazare underground coal mine
from 2001 to 2006 are collected and statistically analyzed to determine the most
important causes of mining accidents and to compare the results of the statistical data in
these years. This comparison is carried out with considering to the accidents causes,
results of the accidents, the parts of body which injured, the incident rate, severity
measure and `frequency distribution. The comparison has shown that the most
important cause of the accidents is the struck due to falling objects and the most injured
parts of body have been the upper parts. Also, the study indicates that the incident rate,
severity measure, frequency distribution are higher in 2006.

Keywords: underground mining, frequently distribution, incident rate, severity measure, mine operation.
