DOES THE POLLUTION WITH HEAVY METALS FROM BRA?OV, ROMANIA INFLUENCE THE FOREST ECOSYSTEMS FROM PIATRA CRAIULUI NATIONAL PARK IN THE CONTEXT OF CLIMATE CHANGE?

Abstract:
A major factor which affects the structure, function, and dynamics of forest ecosystems can be beyond climate, the use of the land, respectively land-cover change and pollution loading. The forest ecosystems can be affected by pollution, by alteration of biotic and abiotic properties even if they are at a great distance from the urban area. Human socio-demographic changes are the primary drivers of urbanization, and pollution and in turn, these patterns are influenced by the climate change and geography. Also, human activities interact with gradients of air pollution (especially with heavy metal pollution) producing substantial variation in forest ecosystem patterns and processes. The aim of this article is to identified if the pollution with heavy metals (lead, copper and iron) from the Bartolomeu neighborhood from Bra?ov city, affects the forest ecosystems from the Piatra Craiului National Park in the context of climate change. The researches was based on the standardized method for European monitoring (UNECE, 1994), the biosurveillance or biomonitoring method. The results of the foliar analysis revealed that in the Bartolomeu neighborhood from Bra?ov the pollution with lead are of 10,19 ppm, with copper are of 16,23 ppm and with iron are of 550,70 ppm, exceeding the toxicity threshold of 1,02 times for lead, of 1,62 times for copper and of 1,84 times for iron. The foliar analysis from Piatra Craiului National Park revealed a content of 1,08 ppm of lead, 2 ppm of copper and 51,51 ppm of iron, all of these values being much lower than the toxicity threshold. Therefore, even if the climate change is affecting where and when pollutants are found in the environment, in our situation the forest ecosystems from Piatra Craiului National Park are not affected of pollution with heavy metals from Bra?ov city.
