ABSTRACT

The aim of this paper is to compare railway transportation system with other means of transportation, on regional and European level, emphasizing its unexploited sources and advantages over other systems. In the 21st century the climate change represents a real challenge for researchers and engineers to try to ensure an environmentally more sustainable future, they are looking for renewable energy sources and environmentally friendly systems to reduce the air -, noise pollution, the energy consumption, etc.
In this field the railway transportation offers really good, green engineering solutions with many alternatives and resources.

Keywords: green engineering solutions, railway, emissions
