ABSTRACT

This article presents a proposal conduct numerical simulation of sedimentation process in the flow system. The essence of the proposed solution is a method to define the disperse phase. The modeled system consist in addition to the continuous main phase, of five dispersed phases. The analysis was conducted using a laboratory settling tank as a sedimentation device, wherein during the purification process of suspension at the same time occurs its separation process. As a result of suspension purification in the settler we obtain at the device outputs the change in concentration with regard to the input value, and the change of grain composition in dispersed fraction. An important element of such simulation is investigated material, which must have a polydisperse size distribution allows a fragmented separation of the suspension. Carried simulation allows for verification of compliance numerical solution with the process carried out in the laboratory settling tank through comparing the suspension concentrations and grain compositions obtained at the outputs of the device (overflow and underflow).
