ABSTRACT

Environmental assessment of springs as an alternative source of household and drinking water supply of the population of Rostov-on-Don is presented. Analysis of the microelement composition of water was carried out mass-spectrometric method. The temporal dynamics of changes in hydrochemical composition of spring water is revealed. It is established that indicators of mineralization, hardness, and concentrations of sulphates, sodium, nitrates, manganese and magnesium greatly exceed sanitary standards. Values of volumetric activity of radon in the water of the springs correspond to the radiation safety standards. Most springs microbiological parameters, such as total coliform content, total microbial content and colifagetiter exceed the permissible values. The source of bacterial contamination of waters is of anthropogenic origin. Due to the low quality of spring water it cannot be used as drinking water. Practical recommendations for the rational use of springs in the city of Rostov-on-Don are developed.
