APPLICATION OF PERFORATED SCREEN FOR PROTECTION OF HYDROSYSTEM TAILRACE AGAINST EROSION

ABSTRACT

We proposed a solution to improve the stability of the fixed part of the overflow dam, in case if a plunge basin occurs in the hydrosystem tailrace, when liquid moves from the protected part of the apron to the unfixed erodible riverbed. As an effective device protecting the tailrace against plunge basin formation, we proposed to install a perforated wire screen near the erodible riverbed area parallel to its surface. Based on integration of the Falkner-Skan equation for boundary layers on permeable surfaces in MathCad, we constructed the turbulent velocity field with injection from the bottom through the perforated wire screen. The turbulent velocity field with injection simulates the protective wire screen, which reduces speed of erosion in the hydrosystem tailrace and prevents the plunge basin formation.
