ABSTRACT
This region is situated in the North-Eastern part of Romania, in the Suceava County, with particular transitional conditions between mountain region and plateau region, resulting characteristic types of land use. The soil fertility factors are specific to this transition. The podzolic soils predominate and moderately humid climate is complemented by relatively low temperatures and weather phenomena that influence the agricultural crops and harvests. The main climatic elements are: 600-650 mm amount of rainfall, 7.5 °C the average annual air temperature.
The soil properties that contribute to the fertility state of the art influence the possibility to provide to plants the necessary substances. In the study region, the soil texture is loamy, sandy loam, clay loam, with a good porosity. Chemical properties need improvement about pH, nutrients and so on for increasing productivity.
Also it is necessary to know the ecological conditions and the buffering capacity of the soil to mitigate the effect of disturbances produced by the agricultural land use.

Keywords: The Suceava Plateau, soil fertility, sustainable agriculture.
