HYDRAULIC SIMULATION OF WATER DISTRIBUTION NETWORK IN RURAL AREA - FIRST STAGE IN WATER INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT

ABSTRACT
Water pumping stations are among the most important energy consumers, therefore a careful hydraulic analyse of the hydraulic systems should be performed in order to optimize the hydraulic and energetic parameters. This paper presents the simulation of a water distribution network that supplies a village in Tulcea county, Romania. It points out the measures that should be taken to modernize it and to reduce the energy consumption. The hydraulic model is developed in EPANET. Numerical simulation was carried out in order to determine the best geometrical parameters of the pipeline and the optimal pumping scenario. The simulation results showed the optimal variant that met both technical requirements, and was the replacement of constant speed pumps with variable speed ones that operate at constant pressure. In terms of energy saving, this replacement, accompanied by the use of HDPE instead of steel made pipes, leads to a consumption of about 11614
