ABSTRACT

With contemporary development of computer techniques has been enabled execution of
work by GPS satellite system in mining operations which GPS system serves for
collection of data related with mining operations and explosive storage facilities. Today,
these computers are part of standard equipments in the most part of mining operations.
These systems offer a possibility of connection with tachograph, readers interested in
the data of mining operations, measurement of coordinates by handheld GPS, transfer of
data in database and monitoring of mining operations, fast, precise and different censors
placed in digital GIS equipments in order to obtain data necessary in the field where the
mining operations take place.

The necessity of monitoring the mining operations by GIS, as an effectively method has
addressed the need that the institution responsible for mining sector in Kosovo, the
ICMM has engaged professionals to verify the information and monitoring of licenses
of different types. It will be possible to present by this paper the functioning of the
licensing process for mining sector in Kosovo and facilities that GIS system provides in
this process.
