This paper presents the issue of biomass with focusing for potential and possibilities of growing and production of energy crops. In terms of using renewable energy in the Member States of the European Union biomass even represents the half of the renewable energy sources. The situation in Member States is in the view of its use different. At present, in addition to the usual food industry crops or feed of agriculturists crops growing also crops for energy use (energy crops - crops, woods). The advantage of the agriculturalist in the growing of energy crops in particular, that these plants are not competitors in the food market, which means that they have secured a demand. As a substitute for conventional fuels can be considered biomass, that is growing for combustion. Particularly important is the term of crop harvest (late autumn or early spring), especially in terms of energy and economy. For the successful growing with a focus on obtaining the highest energy usability are imposed the conditions and have to be met by certain factors. As a tool and utility for multi-criteria assessment of each factor were used geographical information systems, which provide the possibility of creating databases for studied area.
