ABSTRACT
Increasing the wood cover in Poland is an unchangeable element of spatial, ecological and economic state policies. With the assumptions of the National Afforestation Programme put in practice and the aims of the Common Agricultural Policy reached, it is expected that the set target of 33% wood cover will have been met by 2050. This paper deals with the spatial analysis of forests in agricultural holdings in Poland. The study has accounted for the number of agricultural holdings with forest land and the acreage of forest land in agricultural holdings, with an individual approach to the agricultural holdings afforested within the framework of EU support instruments. Afforestation preferences resulting from the soil quality, spatial differentiation and usefulness of agricultural lands for agricultural purposes have also been taken into consideration. Man-made factors, particularly urbanisation, emerged as crucial. On the basis of the analysis it has been concluded that there is a considerable territorial differentiation of forests in agricultural holdings and that the afforestation projects funded within aid programmes of the EU are gaining in significance.
