WATER LOSS IN URBAN DISTRIBUTION NETWORKS. HYDRAULIC SIMULATION AND EXPERIMENTAL CALIBRATION

ABSTRACT
The improvement of urban water distribution networks relies on a holistic and integrated approach of large hydraulic systems, therefore specialized software may be used in order to manage large amounts of data and information. The paper presents a hydraulic simulation using InfoWorks, of the water distribution network in a town of 14,000 inhabitants, close to Constanta, Romania. The hydraulic model is adjusted according to experimental flow rate and pressure measurements in the field. Once calibrated, different scenarios are implemented for the network operation leading to valuable information regarding water loss, consumed energy, water quality and modernization possibilities for the analyzed network.
