DISPOSAL OF OVERBURDEN FROM THE FIRST ECS SYSTEM AFTER FLOODING IN THE WORKING AREA AT OPEN CAST MINE TAMNAVA WEST FIELD

ABSTRACT
After the big weather disaster caused by heavy rains in May 2014., water from river Kolubara poured inside the working zone of open cast mine Tamnava West-field, breaking through the levees of regular flood defense.
At this occasion inside the mine’s area the lake has been formed, with the water’s level on +76,5 meters above sea level. According to underwater measurement, total amount of water was estimated to approximately 187x106 m3, along with the approximately 2,5x106 m3 of sludge deposited at the bottom of lake.
Disposition of systems for overburden and coal excavation according to vertical scale was such that, after the flooding of the mine, whole first overburden system was above the elevation of formed lake.
Due to great importance of this open cast mine for the coal production, respectively electric power, it was necessary to carry out all activities to create conditions for continuation of system’s work.
As for first overburden system, which was in functional condition, it has been decided to proceed work before completion of water pumping from the mine’s zone. Thereby, area for overburden’s disposal was relocated, while from the excavation side of system, continual monitoring of bench’s stability and safety was performed, due to the proximity of the formed lake.
