ABSTRACT
The need for mineral resources such as fossil fuels, metals, building materials and other minerals (used in different sectors) is essential to ensure the prosperity and welfare of human society.
Given that approximately 80% of global energy use (electricity and heat) is produced by burning fossil fuels, the paper presents some data on the causes leading an increase in global energy demand, data about fossil fuels (current reserves, trends in exploitation, extraction rate, duration until the depletion of proven deposits etc.), also there are briefly presented some principles and solutions that can lead to their sustainable management.
Keywords: energetic resources, coal, oil, natural gas
