ABSTRACT
The paper presents the main aspects concerning the geotechnical investigation through penetration sounding and the technical and economical advantages of using penetration soundings in the geotechnical research of the land communication ways.
The depth investigation of the ground was realized through drilling and penetration sounding placed on the road alignment according to the previously drawn up program.
The analysis of the geotechnical investigations realized on the alignment of several roads in the Banat Plain (Romania), including the alignment of the future Nadlac-Arad-Timisoara-Deva highway, offers reasons which support the technical and economical advantages and pleads for the use of this method on a large scale.
The aspects dealt with in the paper, sustained by the examples, showed the technical-economical advantages offered by the “in situ” investigation of the ground through dynamic cone penetration sounding: the possibility of checking the homogeneity of the ground in depth and obtaining continual additional geotechnical data in depth, the decrease of the time required by the depth investigation of the ground, the reductions in the costs of the investigation works.
