Slovakia can be characterized by extremely diverse geology. This is also reflected in the typology of dams built in our territory. Of the 50 dams registered in ICOLD register only 5 are concrete dams. Among them is the Vlčia dolina dam, built in 1948 – 1953. Dam is creating lower reservoir of the pumping storage scheme Dobšiná. System consists of an upper reservoir Palcmanská Maša, lower reservoir Vlčia dolina and compensation reservoir Dobšiná. The system uses hydro potential between the river Hnilec and stream Vlčia of the almost 280 m. Dam Vlčia dolina is concrete gravity with the height above terrain 20.5 m. Subsoil of the dam is due to daily fluctuation in water level about 5-6 m under intense hydro dynamical load. This loading is negatively reflected on the decreasing of the grouting curtain efficiency. For the first time had to be retightened entire grouting curtain between 1978 and 1980. The second time it was made a local treatment in 1987 - 1988. This was implemented in the right slope of valley, where was during the construction of the dam recorded landslide. The landslide was caused by poor quality of subsoil environment. After more than 25 years since the last retightening of grouting curtain are registered negative phenomena on development of filtration flow [1]. It is mainly uplifts, which present the decrease in the grouting curtain efficiency in the right abutment of dam. Growing trend in development of filtration velocities was registered in this region as well. This article describes methods for the analysis of these events and ideas for further action to challenge this problem.
