ABSTRACT
The first part of the paper presents a synthesis of the specific geomorphologic, geologic and geotechnical aspects of the Banat plain area. The geotechnical aspects are also emphasized by certain values of the geotechnical characteristics of the clay and clay-silt soils having high swelling-contraction potential, as well as by their correlation with the mineralogical composition. The paper further analyses in detail, by presenting the performed geotechnical investigations, the causal and interdependence link between the inadequate behavior of the foundation ground and the worsening of the distress and deterioration of certain sections on the DN57, between Oraviţa and Moraviţa.
In addition to the technical solutions recommended for the remediation of the deteriorations found in the analyzed case studies, the paper also presents useful conclusions and recommendations for the construction and rehabilitation of the roads in the flat area of the Banat region, especially from the geotechnical point of view.
