OPERATION OF RESERVOIR WAPIENICA IN THE SILESIAN BESKID MOUNTAINS (SOUTHERN POLAND)

ABSTRACT

The aim of the study was to identify the conditions prevailing at the Wapienica Reservoir in southern Poland, which is impounded by a dam, and to determine its natural and socio-economic significance. As part of the field work, hydrological mapping was carried out. Indoor analyses consisted of a library query, cartographic analysis and the analysis of numerical data. Basic morphometric parameters of the reservoir, thermal and oxygen conditions and selected physicochemical properties of its water were presented. The reservoir was also assessed in terms of its susceptibility to degradation. The study conducted allowed certain characteristics of the reservoir to be identified, which determine the possibilities of its use to a significant extent.
