ABSTRACT

The paper presents the applicable approaches to automatic generation of structural lines. The research involved separate extraction of drainage and ridge lines with the use of hydrological tools (D8 algorithm) implemented in ArcGIS environment. The results of extraction in a vector form were used to create hybrid-structured digital terrain models that maintained height accuracy of the product. The use of presented approach in the hydraulic modelling improves calculations and allows performing analysis on large areas of the whole catchment, as well as extracting information relevant for hydrology about hydraulic constructions such as embankments. Digital terrain models with skeleton lines obtained automatically can be , therefore, used more efficiently by using hybrid structure.
