ABSTRACT

Crime data is very confidential. A wrong visualization method can harm private confidentiality. In this study the author tested the applicability of contiguous cartograms for crime mapping purposes. The purpose of test was to verify that contiguous cartograms can be an appropriate solution to visualize crime data without the harm of privacy. The results shows that it can be applicable for this purpose but for solving most complex problems contiguous cartogram method must be improved with using other cartographic variables, also further investigations should be done with unprofessionals.
