ABSTRACT

Traian Vuia municipality belongs to Lugojului Hills, to Faget Depression and to the Bega Plain. Soil information, taken from the Office for Soil and Agrochemical Studies Timisoara were completed with our own data, subsequent interpreted and processed with specific software for Geographic Information Systems. For the calculation of the surface erosion, the methods described in the specialty literature have been used. Soil quality is subject to a series of degradation processes and limiting factors (excess surface moisture, acidic soils, carrying capacity, surface erosion, etc). Surface erosion occurs with different intensities, depending on the environmental conditions. The amount of soil lost through erosion of the surface is affected by the type of culture grown on the soil (the lower values were obtained for the perennial herb cultivated soil in the second year, and the large amounts of soil are lost to soil planted with corn) and slope and slope length (the amount of eroded soil increases with the length and inclination of the slope). The highest average annual amounts of soil are lost in highly eroded soils by water, situated on the slopes strongly inclined and cultivated with corn, located in the Lugojului Hills.
