In the mesometamorphic series of Sebes Mountains (Romania), were reported several
migmatites that are in composition rare and radioactive minerals, including oxides of
Nb and Ta. Microscopic studies have indicated the presence of these minerals in
magnetite and biotite zones, where they were diagnosed: Pyrochlore (Ca, Na, Y, U,
Th)2 (Nb, Ta, Ti)6 (OH, F, O), Fergusonite (Y, Ca, Fe, Er, Ce) (Nb, Ta, Ti)O4 and, in
smaller quantities, Colombite (Fe, Mn) (Nb,Ta)2O6 and Aeschiynite (-Y) (Priorite) (Y,
Ce, Th, Ca, Na, U) (Ti, Nb, Ta)6O6. The presence of these minerals in Oraºtie
Mountains is confirmed by spectral analysis showing a concentration of 0.117% Nb2O5
average. Report Nb / Ta indicate values between 1/10 and 1/30. The presence of
Pyrochlore, Fergusonit and Colombite has been reported in other parts of Romania, but
Aeschiynite is reported here for the first time in accumulations with industrial interest
Keywords: rare minerals, radioactive minerals, spectral analysis, Pyrochlore,
Fergusonite, Colombite, Aeschiynite.
