DETERMINATION OF THE OPTIMAL MIXTURES OF ROMANIAN CRUDES OIL FOR PROCESSING

ABSTRACT

Roumanian Oil Productions is annually 4 million tons in over 100 locations
concessioned from the NATIONAL AGENCY OF MINERAL RESOURCES
BUCHAREST. Whereas, up to 1989 the extracted crude oil used to be delivered
according to its qualities towards the existing refineries (the crude oil existing in
Moldova used to be processed in Darmanesti Refinery, the crude existing in Videle used
to be processed in 1 Mai Refinery and the crude oil existing in Suplacu de Barcau used
to be processed in Subplac Refinery), following the privatisations preformed in the
petrochemical and extractive industry sector, all the crude oil in Romania is now being
processed by Brazi Refinery. Due to the transportation company’s incapacity to separate
it, the extracted crude is being pumped as mixture, therefore the achievement of
qualitative superior products is hard to get (due to the diverse workability properties of
the crudes). Based on environmental conditions request to increase the quantities of
medium distillates obtained in the refinery, from 30% up to 45% and to decrease the
fuel oil from 15% down to 7%, this paper aims to present the optimal formulas of
Romanian crudes mixture, according to the requests hereabove expressed. The
qualitative analysis of the crudes extracted, the mixing method, as well as the results
obtained by applying the WIB QSB soft for the optimisation of the mixing processes are
issues taken into consideration when drafting this paperwork. This paper is comparing
the results obtained following simulation to the ones in the laboratory (physical analysis
of the crudes and mixtures obtained thereof, the analysis of the distillation curve of the
crudes and obtained mixtures). Moreover, this paper also presents the possibilities to
deliver the mixtures that cannot be processed. In final I got the reaction curves of
viscosity and pour point mixtures of oil for 4 types and 10 mixed formulas, managing to
computed formula to flow property of mixtures.
