OPTICAL METHODS FOR ASSESSING RECOVERED OIL PROPERTIES CHANGE CAUSED BY INJECTION OF MULTIPURPOSE COMPLEX AGENT

ABSTRACT

Oil composition at the late stage of field development is determined by both natural and
anthropogenic factors. Change in composition and physical-and-chemical properties of
oil could be considered significant in several ways. This is due to both changes in the
interaction of oil and injected agents, and involvement of the reserves not yet
developed. The most sensitive, quickly and accurately determined parameters are
optical characteristics of oil, and namely the coefficient of light absorption. It depends
on the content of asphaltenes and resins in crude oil and is objectively determined by a
photoelectric method.

To assess the impact of EOR on the properties of crude oil, we studied crude oil
samples selected from sites where EOR methods were used. We studied the Devonian
deposits of North-Almetyevsk area, Romashkinskoye oil field. Photocolorimetry is
considered to be the main method for rapid assessment of the well respond to EOR
method by changes of oil properties.

To eliminate the influence of any other factors except EOR, only those sites were
selected in which no activities, that could influence the change in crude oil optical
density, were carried out .

To monitor the success in the EOR use and the use of photocolorimetry method for
evaluating the effectiveness of the impact, statistical analysis of the well performance in
combination with study of optical properties of crude oil, sampled from sites where
EOR had been used.

It has been proved that due to increasing heterogeneity of oil flow at the late stage of
field development, the use of EOR makes it possible both an increase and decrease the
optical density of oil being produced. The change in composition and physical-andchemical
properties of oil in the reservoir may be associated with changes in the
interaction of oil and injected agents, and the reserves not involved in the field
development process. Consequently, the efficiency of СНПХ-9030 multipurpose agent
injection was studied.
